Poem: My Other Names

originally written 12th September 2017

Stranger looks me in the eye and says
You, are not, respected
Stranger turns their face away but they shout so it carries
Slut
And again
That slut
The one who said no
More than once

 It was not enough

Stranger names me once again
Dumb
Bitch
Dumb
Bitch
As though I don’t study every day to argue with authority
To prove that I am not without
(Worth)
I am nothing more than a
Dumb
Bitch

Friend looks me in the eye and says
It is all, your, fault
Friend looks me in the eye and says
You are the one who is
Untrustworthy
Because I called myself
Unhappy
Once

It was not enough

Once-a-friend looks me in the eye
It is all, your, fault
You are the one who is
Poisonous
You are the one who makes yourself unhappy
You make this house unhappy
With your poison
With this gaslight
That once-a-friend holds out to me
Shaking like a victim
Accusations like a gift

Slut, Dumb, Poisonous, Bitch
I have had enough
